AML & Verification Policy at Grosvenor Casino
This page explains, in plain terms, how Grosvenor Casino meets its anti-money-laundering obligations under our Malta Gaming Authority licence (MGA/B2C/394/2019) and what that means for you when you register, deposit and withdraw.
Our AML Policy Explained
We hold licence MGA/B2C/394/2019 from the Malta Gaming Authority, and that licence binds us to the Prevention of Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism Regulations. As the operator, The Rank Group plc, we maintain a full anti-money-laundering programme: a nominated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), documented risk assessments, staff training and independent audits.
Our commitment is simple. Every pound that moves through our platform must come from a legitimate source and return to its rightful owner. We apply risk-based controls, which means the level of scrutiny scales with the risk a transaction or account presents, not a blanket approach for everyone.
- Customer due diligence at the points set out below
- Ongoing transaction and behavioural monitoring
- Suspicious activity reporting to the relevant authorities where required
- Record keeping and retention of verification evidence
When and How We Verify
Verification (KYC) happens in stages. We confirm your basic identity at registration by checking your details against independent data sources, we complete full identity and address verification before your first withdrawal, and we carry out enhanced checks at certain thresholds or when monitoring flags an account for review.
We ask only for documents we are legally required to collect, and we tell you exactly why each one is needed.
- Photo ID: valid passport, driving licence or national identity card
- Proof of address: a utility bill, bank statement or council tax bill dated within the last three months
- Proof of payment method ownership: a card photo showing the last four digits, or a bank statement matching the account name
Verification Step by Step
Most verifications are completed within 24 hours of receiving clear documents. Here is the process from your side:
- 1. Upload your documents through the secure Verification section of your account.
- 2. Our compliance team reviews them against the details on your profile.
- 3. If anything is unclear, we contact you by email or 24/7 live chat with a specific request.
- 4. Once approved, your account is marked as fully verified and withdrawal restrictions lift.
- 5. If a document is rejected, we tell you why and which replacement we need.
How we protect your documents
Documents are transmitted over encrypted connections, stored on access-controlled servers in the European Economic Area, and visible only to trained compliance staff who need them to complete a check. We never share your verification data with third parties for marketing purposes, and we do not retain card images beyond the period the regulations require.
Why We Ask for Source of Funds
If your deposits exceed levels our risk assessment treats as elevated, or if your playing pattern is inconsistent with the income profile on your account, we may ask you to show where the money comes from. This is a legal obligation under our licence, not a judgement about you.
Acceptable evidence includes recent payslips, a tax return or HMRC correspondence, pension statements, a signed employment contract, or bank statements showing the credits that fund your deposits. In some cases, particularly for larger sums, we may also ask about source of wealth, meaning how your overall assets were accumulated.
We set the request to the minimum level the situation requires. A single clear document is often enough, and once reviewed, we do not ask again unless the risk profile changes materially.
How We Monitor Transactions
Every deposit and withdrawal passes through automated and manual checks. We compare transaction patterns against your verified profile, watch for structuring (splitting amounts to stay under thresholds), and verify that funds return by the same method used to deposit wherever the payment provider allows it. Withdrawals go back to Visa Debit, Mastercard Debit, Trustly, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller or Bank Transfer accounts held in your own name.
E-wallet withdrawals are processed within 24 hours; cards and bank transfers take 1 to 3 business days. The minimum for both deposits and withdrawals is £10, and the maximum is £25,000 per transaction. We charge no fees on either side.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum deposit | £10 |
| Minimum withdrawal | £10 |
| Maximum withdrawal | £25,000 per transaction |
| E-wallet withdrawal time | Up to 24 hours |
| Card / bank transfer | 1 to 3 business days |
| Fees | None |
If Verification Fails
Until full verification is complete, we restrict withdrawals. Deposits remain possible at your own discretion, but funds cannot leave the account until we have confirmed your identity, address and payment method ownership. This protects you as much as us: it is the main safeguard against someone else withdrawing your balance.
If you do not provide requested documents within a reasonable period, or if documents cannot be validated, we may suspend the account, freeze the balance and, where our legal obligations require it, report the matter to the authorities. A suspended account can be reactivated at any point by supplying valid documents, and any balance is returned to a verified payment method in your name.
If we conclude that verification cannot be completed at all, we close the account and refund the remaining balance to its verified source. We take this route only when no reasonable alternative exists.
How Long We Keep Records
Our licence requires us to retain identity documents, transaction records and due-diligence evidence for five years after the end of the business relationship, or five years after a suspicious transaction, whichever is later. After that period, we delete or anonymise the records, unless the law requires us to hold them for longer.
Retention is not optional: these records are what allow a regulator or court to reconstruct a transaction trail. Between the checks and the deletion, your data sits behind access controls described above, and you may request a copy of the information we hold about you at any time under data protection law.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to verify my account before I can deposit?
No. Basic identity checks run at registration, but full verification with documents is required before your first withdrawal. You can deposit and play in the meantime.
How long does verification take?
In most cases we complete verification within 24 hours of receiving clear, valid documents. If something is missing, we contact you through live chat or email.
Can I withdraw to a different method than I deposited with?
We return funds by the same method you used to deposit wherever possible, in line with our same-method withdrawal rule. Where a provider does not support withdrawals, we pay out by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Why have you asked for my payslips?
A source of funds request means our monitoring identified deposits above our risk thresholds. A single recent payslip, tax return or bank statement is usually enough to close the request.
What happens to my documents after verification?
They are stored on encrypted, access-controlled servers for five years after the business relationship ends, as our Malta Gaming Authority licence requires, and then deleted or anonymised.
